Birthday

So, today is my birthday. All 39 and shit.

I've decided for my birthday to give myself a gift that won't really manifest until I am 40. I am going to be in a healthy place on my 40th birthday.

But, I realize that I need to approach this adventure in a completely different way than usual. And calling it adventure, is really one of the first steps!! If I were aiming for a slow process, or say "one pound a week", then that would be 52 pounds. But I really don't need to lose that much weight, nor am I all that interested in losing weight, but rather Body Fat %, BMI and perhaps inches. And to feel good, less chronic pain, sleep better, better strength and endurance.

So, some "ground rules" that really aren't rules since rules in this would defeat the purpose of my doing this at all differently.

1. Scale. I always tell people to throw away their scale. And I used to be quite the scale monkey but to the point that I always weighed myself several times a day. And of course, the body can fluctuate between several pounds (or more!) throughout the day, so this is obviously really useless. The scale is also very useless if you are adding weight training to your regimen. Muscle is heavy. So, at some point, I stopped weighing myself so obsessively, unless I was starting up a "New Me!!" thing. It wasn't as bad as several times a day, but still pretty useless information. So this time around, scale occasionally. Mostly just for measurement purposes, but not the main method. I am starting off at 185.

2. Body Fat and BMI. This is more the accurate measurement to take, especially since my aim is to take on more strength. I have one of those digital hand widgets that take your body fat and such after entering all your info. I'm female, age 39, 5'9", and weigh 185. This widget puts me at 33.8% body fat with a BMI of 27.3. Which, in the "medical lists" which I don't always agree with, puts me at "overweight".

And well, kinda whatever.
