Round Three in the ring of Heather vs. COC goes to.... well, hard to say.
Apparently I am an absolute joy to work with. Natch.
Because obviously it's all about my attitude and no matter that the week before I was an employee who just didn't have the matching values for the agency.
At this point... whatever.
Suck my COC, bitch.

Always More Training
For fuck's sake.
Always more training at work.
Although we did have a freakish mock group with one of our relief workers "play-acting" a scary client.
But it seemed so real that everyone in the room was a bit disturbed by it. I was sitting next to the guy and I kept trying to lean away from him. He was intense. I figure that it's hard to produce that sort of reality "acting" without really having it in you somewhere. He's always seemed a little off. I wonder if he's having his first break?
Schizophrenia does tend to show up around 18-22 and he's around 22.
It was just strange to experience that coming out of someone who is suppose to be one of the "normal" ones.
Yeah.

More Singing and Dancing
Band practice today.
I'm singing a few songs on my own... ack!!! "Long Tall Sally" being one. I wanted "Tush" but couldn't push it the way I wanted without hurting my voice a bit.
Then went to my next "Intro to Ballet" class since it doesn't seem really like an "Intro to Dance" class, as I would see it. We were doing bows at the end of class, pretending to run out and bow to the pretend "audience" and the teacher told us to engage our personalities and be playful and creative. So, of course, I run out there, all tippy ballet style, bow somewhat gracefully with a kiss to my "audience" and then slap my own ass and tippy off the "stage".
Yeah, I'm a bit coarse around the edges, no graceful ballerina here.

Ballet at the Y
So my trainer helped me out for free with ballet moves, which was quite cool. I'm feeling fairly amazed at myself that I can pick up the moves pretty quickly. I still seem to suck at a string of moves together, meaning choreography but I suppose with being more comfortable with the single moves will help that a lot.
We might try out flamenco together although I know our schedules are both pretty whacked out and mine only to get worse later in the year.

Lines Crossed
Heavy clinical days at work are really long all day marathons.
Our main borderline was freaking out hard most of the day. She called the cops in the morning. She was continuously aggressive throughout the day until I called the cops on her in the evening.
The police told the program that we'd be liable if anything happened again and those were fortunately the magic words to get COC to send both the residents involved away pretty much the next day.
Whew. But the house will be so much quieter from here on out. For the most part.

Elusive Sleep
I really don't really sleep at work anymore. The notes are supposed to have gotten a "help" but still seems really long... especially if you end up doing your actual job (being with clients most of the day). So once you've gotten to close the door and started on notes, it gets way too long.
And once I crawl into bed, well, I don't feel like I sleep much these days, very light and restless. Any noise brings me to alertness even though no one knocks on the door these days. But it is the energy of the house lately. Even though no one knocks, the clinical energy is waiting for it. And people do stay up late, wandering back and forth and the steps outside the office are loud.
Nooby must have sensed something because as I lay down to try and sleep, he crawled up onto the bed with me and when I rolled over onto my stomach, he crawled up onto my back and spread out, a nice comfortable weight. I move a lot when sleeping (or trying to) but he felt so warm and comfortable that I tried not to move at all.
That cat is so spoiled. Everyone loves him and for absolute good reason, he really is the sweetest cat I've ever met. And he's like one of our birds, William, who can do no wrong because he's just so darn cute. Nooby is the same way. He can come bug you by trying to sit on you when typing your notes out or he might come and sit on your papers that you are trying to use to type your notes out.
But lying on my back with him spread out in such a comfortable fashion even though I couldn't move lest he fall off, well, that's completely forgivable.
What a CUTE kitty!!!

Disturbia
Well, this is an interesting post, because I feel pretty damn good but this song is in my head as a fucking brilliant positive song. Maybe it's the song music itself because the lyrics certainly aren't very positive.
People finally started speaking up a little bit in staff meeting today to my amazement. I don't think that's why I'm in such a good mood although I believe it might have a little bit added in. So, Disturbia:
So, music or lyrics? Actually maybe both. Maybe I'm feeling that things are going the opposite from the lyrics, more in line with the music.
Although sometimes I feel the positive states are like living in a city of wonder. Places that are within, every moment, just waiting to be brought to the surface.

Disturbia - Rihanna
Bum bum be-dum bum bum be-dum bum x4
What's wrong with me?
Why do I feel like this?
I'm going crazy now
No more gas in the rig
Can't even get it started
Nothing heard, nothing said
Can't even speak about it
All my life on my head
Don't want to think about it
Feels like I'm going insane
Yeah
It's a thief in the night
To come and grab you
It can creep up inside you
And consume you
A disease of the mind
It can control you
It's too close for comfort
(chorus)
Throw on your break lights
We're in the city of wonder
Ain't gonna play nice
Watch out, you might just go under
Better think twice
Your train of thought will be altered
So if you must falter be wise
Your mind is in disturbia
It's like the darkness is the light
Disturbia
Am I scaring you tonight
Disturbia
Ain't used to what you like
Disturbia
Disturbia
Bum bum be-dum bum bum be-dum bum x4
Faded pictures on the wall
It's like they talkin' to me
Disconnectin' your call
Your phone don't even ring
I gotta get out
Or figure this shit out
It's too close for comfort
It's a thief in the night
To come and grab you
It can creep up inside you
And consume you
A disease of the mind
It can control you
I feel like a monster
(Chorus)
Bum bum be-dum bum bum be-dum bum x4
Disturbia
Release me from this curse
I've been trying to maintain
But I'm struggling
You can't go, go, go
I think I'm going to oh, oh, oh
(Chorus)
Bum bum be-dum bum bum be-dum bum x4

The Natural?
Well, I slept in until 12pm after going to bed at 1am or so. I had to take an Ambien to force "the issue" as I put it, since I had pretty much slept all day yesterday. Guess I needed the sleep.
So I pulled myself up and messed around with the computer, discovering that I probably will not be able to get the point on my driving record removed (a speed trap near Burning Man last year). Nevada doesn't allow out of state people to take traffic school. And although their points disappear in one year, CA DMV says it will last up to three years. I really don't understand it all and it sounds so fucking arbitrary and stupid. Of course, it's driving up my insurance which really sucks. I will appeal it to the Nevada judge but it doesn't look good. I hate that sort of thing. So... fuck.
On the other hand, I went to an Intro to Dance class taught at the Lines Ballet school, the public side. For the broke down oldies like myself. It was basic ballet movement with the simple ballet piano music that makes you want to claw your eyes out, not the stuff I'd RATHER be dancing to, for example "Untouched" by The Veronicas.
But I figured I needed to start with the simple basics first, and a lot of modern dance has its roots in ballet. Yey. But yeah, need to start there before I go to modern jazz, modern contemporary or even a type of hip-hop I've really been enjoying on So You Think You Can Dance called Lyrical Hip-Hop. An example, Mark and Chelsie (from the show) dancing to "Bleeding Love" by Leona Lewis. He's a workaholic husband, she's the left at home wife. Or Joshua and Katee dancing a lyrical routine about a boyfriend telling his girlfriend he has been called to war. Amazing.

But I hugely digress.
So I walk into the class and all these skinny bitches with fanciful dance "shoe" type thingies including a couple of people in point shoes, are standing there. The teacher notes me as new and asks if I've had any classes before. "No.", I say, pretty true in my adult lifetime. Then she asks if I do any sports or am very physically active. "No." I say, wondering what I'm in for. Isn't this supposed to be an INTRO to dance class? She then tells me she has a class on Sundays that might be more suited to me, (I guess I have reached Weenie status, I'm not sure). I shake my head regretfully because I work on Sundays. She says to give this class a go although it might be fast. Uhm, isn't this an INTRO to dance class??
So it starts out with those old barre exercises, holding onto the barre while you go through little exercises in first, fifth, etc positions, plies, demi-plies, grand plies, releves, arabesques and the like. I think I took two ballet classes when I was a very young teen and the show choir I did in high school didn't have anything like this.
But you know, I wonder how different our society would be if it gave older athletes the same chances and same recognition as "younger" and supposedly "better" athletes. The older you get the more knowledge and wisdom and all that, right? Well, for a lot of people. But I realized today, that not only do I have brain smarts as an "older" person, but I have BODY smarts, too.
Or maybe I really am just a natural. Because as I was copying the teacher as closely as I could, following along as fast as I could, she praised me several times, saying "You're a natural!!". I think I blushed. And frowned. Although I tried not to. I think I frowned for sure when she said, "You're doing great! You're a natural! It usually takes folks six to eight classes to pick this stuff up!". Fuck society for all the messages that say that we not be pleased with such things!! I was pleased and excited in that sort of massively terrified way to be pointed out as "GOOD", among the crowd.
Afterwards, she came up to me and invited me to stay in this particular class. I thanked her and asked a couple of tips for taking care of my heel which I've been having problems with. We got into a discussion about dance and age. I had mentioned that I had two classes when I was in my early teens and was now thirty-five. She stated that she was in her 50's and started dancing when she was 26. She said that the big dance companies are harder, they tend to cut off at around 35 but that regional and local dance companies have people dancing up to 50s or 60s and that I had plenty of time to go that direction if I desired.
The idea is certainly intriguing. But I do have a long way to go, maybe not so much with technique if I truly do have a "natural" quality to me, but with my poor physicality. All my tendonitis and such. And endurance and strength. But my YMCA fitness trainer is a dancer, I think for one of the Lines companies and she's MY trainer. So, I have a huge benefit that sort of all falls into place.
So, I have to say thank you to So You Think You Can Dance. Because, yes, I think maybe I can dance.

Sleep All Day
So naturally, having had no sleep, I came home and crashed, slept almost the entire day. I woke up for a few hours and blearily poked around on the computer.
And then when Marty pulled me into bed at his normal time I had to take an Ambien to be able to go back to sleep. Eeesh.

NO Sleep
If I got no sleep, I can only be at work!!
We have new clients who need a lot of constant clinical attention and thusly I was doing so. So I ended up doing notes ALL night long and into the next morning... I didn't get any sleep. None. I'm not a happy camper. Well, who would be, really.

Terror on Stage
So, since Marty's female singer didn't show up for their band workshop, I went to the singing band thingie to try it out. I got a cold sore I was that nervous.
I consider myself a fairly good singer... or maybe I should say I have good voice. But on mic, it sounds... ick. Although I've never liked the way I sound on tape. I know it's the difference of hearing yourself through your jaw and externally but... dang. Plus, I've never sang on mic before and I really don't know how to push or not push my voice.
Plus, I need to learn these songs without looking at the lyrics. I guess it's poor form to read from a sheet whilst signing on stage, no?
Just the thought of performing in front of a crowd makes my stomach sink and feel instantly sick. Waaah!!! Maybe I'll eventually get over it.

WTF
I too have joined the ranks of WTF.
I love using this in emails and game.
WTF = What the Fuck.
Supervision with my crazy boss and getting satisfactory marks when just last two weeks, I got all unsatisfactory marks. I'm sort of a whatever point.
She told me I seem "happy" and I let her know why, because I've let go of the stress I carry in our relationship (to a very huge degree) and she was all fixed smiles, nodding that I am such a team player and a joy to work with now. WTF??
Oh stuff it up your sandy vagina, bitch.

So You Think You Can Dance, Part 2
I've been just devouring the episodes lately. The best dancers are the ones I get chills watching.
My song collection is increasing as well, as when I hear a song I like, especially paired with a good dance, I get it from iTunes immediately. I've got quite a collection so far with some interesting addition of more lyrical hiphop. Fun.
The elimination show is sad and all the dancers really seem to genuinely care about each other, coming up to embrace the lost, tears in their eyes, especially when partners are split up.
Sniff. Poo.

Body Doesn't Agree
Another dumb training, sitting for four hours learning about.... well, really, nothing. Or at least that we haven't heard said over and over. They don't really teach us anything new but repeat stuff over and over. And over.
Then off to my YMCA training sessions. My mind was all for it and I made it through the session just fine but by the time I got home I felt strangely ill and was trembling. Bleh. I'm not one of those people who get the runner's high. Everything is a struggle.
I did hear back that I had gotten my new kid internship. Crap, so for 10 months I'll be working about 65 hours a week. Waaah. I don't wanna!!!

Even Nerds Have Fun
Uhm, what?

I found this on the web page of some computer science professor at Calgary? ....
I'm supposing these are computer nerds? Proving the clever can be strange too.

Crash and Sleep
Since I didn't get enough sleep at my stupid job, when I got home I slept pretty much all day.
Then of course, unfortunately I was up late, creating all sorts of havoc with my sleep schedule.
COC should die in a fire.

Getting Back In
Back to work today, bah.
The fucking notes took me all day and I crawled into bed at 3am, having to get up at 7am and I probably didn't fall asleep until 4am in any case.
Arrggggg.

The Agreement
My mom used to lose weight by making agreement to not get me something she didn't want me to have, like a TV or phone for my room or letting me paint my room all black. So she'd set a date and a weight goal. If she didn't make the goal, TV or phone in my room or all black paint. If she made the goal, obviously nothing happened but her losing weight. Hey, wait a minute, I lost either way!!
I'm always grumping about my body stuff but finally I told Marty I might want to try my mom's method, except that I'm not good on the deprivation models... that if I don't lose the weight I lose something or if I lose the weight, I avoid losing something. Not doing.
But something to work for that I get as a reward, I can do that.
So Marty and I made The Agreement.
By December 31, 2008, if I weigh 155 pounds, I can use money from our savings to buy a mid-range macro lens for my DSLR.
We'll see if this is motivation enough!

Hellboy II: Golden Army
We went to see Hellboy (the new one) after me forgetting my Rosen session TWICE. I felt very bad that I'd forgotten, like a twinkie.
I used to watch the TV show Beauty and the Beast, my first introduction to Ron Perlman, and I've always been a bit charmed with him after that point.
His character is a bit goofy and the Hellboy characters and movies are a bit goofy as well but they are fun movies and I had fun.

Can't Face the Witch
I called in sick today for my first full day back to work. Mostly due to being ill but mostly because I just yet could not face the witch even though I had seen her yesterday for training.
This is the effect that she has on us (another co-worker is out due to work-stress related illness).
Marty and I watched Hellboy (the first movie) in preparation for the second one coming out tomorrow.

Busy Vacation Day
Today, I supposed to still be on vacation.
But we had a training today on how to run the new groups we are instituting and I just don't want to give COC any reason to get on my case. So, I went.
We did a mock group with volunteers from the staff present. I volunteered and so did Albert, another co-worker from Eucalyptus House. He channeled one of our Borderline diagnosed residents almost to a T. It was very funny. And pointed out a lot of flaws in the Harm Reduction/Motivational Interview tools for running groups with this population. Not that that will stop COC from following through with her dastardly plans.
Then off to see Barbara for a rather painful chiropractic adjustment. I've got this weird heel thingie going on, painful and hard to stretch out my calf without setting it off. Oh body.
Then Marty was kind enough to come with me, having called in sick to work, to an interview for a kid internship. It's 10 months but would be good training I think. So, now I'm just waiting to hear back on it. So yeah, I guess I'm going to finish. Yey.

Yey.

Wanted
Home again, home again!I slept in, finally!! Some actual sleep, yey!!
Marty and I went to see the movie Wanted.
I thought it had an odd lilt to it until I found out it was done by guy who did Nightwatch and Daywatch. Then, the oddness made total sense. I liked movie of those movies even if they were a bit hard to follow at times. They were sort of like watching a science-fiction movie done by a schizophrenic. I just need a little bit of explanation now and then about that particular world.
I personally liked the last line even if Marty didn't. But you can read his review on his "new" movie review blog called Deep Movie Reviews. Natch.

Happy Accidents
So my mom and I left Columbus, OH and drove directly back to the Louisville airport. She dropped me off and stood with me in line, outside the ropes. I missed the days when people could take you right up to the gate, when you could get off the plane and there's your party. Fun to see others greeting each other as well. But as soon as I past the point of no-shoe return, I bid my farewell and faced forward. I'm not much of a looking back kind of person.
I got ensconced at my gate and learned that my plane would be late. So I waited a half an hour in line for them to tell me I would have enough time to get to my connection in Atlanta.
So our plane came in and off we went. My plane in Atlanta was leaving at 5:05 pm and my plane landed at 5:04pm, needless to say I missed it. I was a bit chuffed.
But the nice counter guy put me on the very next flight, two hours from then, which sucked a bit, but hey, at least I would in still at a decent time in SF. It was the last seat left on that flight and it was a business (I guess also called first class?) seat. Well, I'm not complaining, put me on the flight!
So, I walk on the plane and for the first time, I don't keep going to bowels of the airplane to find my seat. I plopped down into my new first class seat with a little trepidation. I think I was wearing my comfy pink leopard print fuzzy pants.
The chairs were large, of course. I always try to sit in the exit rows since my legs are long and space is extra nice on a long flight. So the extra leg room wasn't really anything new but I didn't realize how much the space to each side mattered. Roomy for legs and arms. Very nice. Cushy. Right by the bathrooms, easy to get out, although I had the aisle seat anyway.
I've never flown business/first class before. So I dug through the nice complementary Delta magazine for tips on how to behave, natch. I didn't want to make a fool of myself by asking in that way that immediately identifies you as a coach flying idiot, "Uhm, is this free?" I couldn't find anything in the magazine other than a reminder of the song I made up flying to the East Coast. I'll share that later.
But as it turned out, everything was free, from the food to the on board movies to the games.
I've flown a lot in my life. Not as much as a business person or such, but I've experienced the best that airplane food has to offer, which never, ever deserves the descriptions "best", "better" or even "good", but I have to say, for real, the first class food was the best airplane food I've ever had. They come around with hot napkins so you can wash your hands and face and ask what you'd like, the bow tie pasta or the glazed chicken? I go for the chicken, natch. And it comes out on a plate with a tray and piping hot. And to drink, ma'am? One, don't call me ma'am. No! I didn't say that, I promise.
I decided to test the whole "free" thing and ordered some coconuty alcoholic drink thing which was very tasty. Free. I got a Bailey's Irish Cream over ice. Free. I stopped there because I don't drink alcohol that often and did not want to behave like a soused, obnoxious first class flyer. Although watching the service crew with other passengers who were much heavier drinkers than myself, they appeared very pleasant and professional. I wonder if they give out the alcohol free in order to get people to drink and pass out and thus not have to deal with them any more? Interesting theory.
I watched the movie Penelope, having taken a while to pick that one out, there were many choices... all free. I love saying that word.
I played the onboard Trivia game, which was the only free game in coach. You play against others on the plane. I won a lot of rounds coming east and I was losing most coming west. Hmm. Then I played Insaniquarium, also free!!, until the plane landed. Take offs, turbulence and landing, my worst times.
So that was my first experience flying first class. Woot!
So my Sky Mall song. You know the Sky Mall magazines on Delta flights. Filled with things to buy that you really don't need. There's a Stuart Davis song called "Sky God" which is very bouncy and bushy tailed, very pop, but I think is a snarky commentary, but with Stuart Davis, you never know. I couldn't find a clip on Youtube.com but there's a line that goes "Sky god, this one's real, my god, is revealed.... if I've learned one lesson, why ask why, give it to the sky god". So I came up with my own version to amuse myself on the flight east.
"Sky Mall, this one's real, buy it all, it's a deal, Take all my money and give it to the Sky Mall."

Hancock
I saw Hancock with my cousins (Leah and Harrison) and her new man. Does that make him my cousin in law?
It was fine for a movie. A little vague on the specifics of what exactly Hancock was in the scheme of being a species. But overall, a good "popcorn" movie, as Marty puts it.
Gods, I'm becoming so jaded.

The Multi-Layered Day
Wow, I got way not enough sleep on a bad couch and lots of creaky floors and baby and kids, sleeping at my cousin's house.
There was a lot of bustle getting ready to go to the wedding, which is nothing new to the Knight/Bennett clan, I must confess. I was feeling grumpy with LOTS of body stuff coming up, trying to stuff myself into hose and a dress. Marty says I dress like a frump most of the time and he's right. I like baggy clothes. Ick. I haven't been eating very well at all this trip, I feel fat and ugly and my body really hurts, plus my heart is doing its thing constantly, was most of the day yesterday. Which puts me in a poor state.
I had to call Marty and get some "It's okay, I love you and you're beautiful." It helped a little bit and I made the "hang loose" surfer sign to myself while talking on the phone with him and went off to the wedding.
The wedding was nice. I liked what the priest had to say about fighting. It's not that you fight to win or to be right, but that you fight for the relationship. I think that is true, otherwise Marty and I would have been kaput by now with all the fighting if we weren't actually fighting to create survival for the relationship. At least, that's what I'm going with. Nice to know it had a purpose!
My wedding photos weren't that great unfortunately and I realized that I should have set my ISO settings much higher than I had been shooting at, bah. So, half of the reception is sort of okay. The reception was nice, social event. Ahh, weddings.
Then back to take "naps" with the kids running all around, so really only dozing. Then off to dinner with the family, sitting under the pavilion still up on the lawn. What a nice idyllic community scene, again, an upper middle class neighborhood, not suburbia, neighbors talk to each other, read on porches, wave to each other. Ahh, oh so very nice. I really didn't want to leave right then, no matter how much I love my San Francisco. I really enjoyed reading and talking with family, getting to know Harrison more. Again, a good egg .
Then I went to play Rock Band, like Guitar Hero, but as a group, with Maia on guitar, Harrison on drums and me on singing. We played for hours and it was screaming fun, enough to even make me hoarse.
I walked home in the dark to Suellen's house, completely safe. Ahh, oh so very nice.
I was tired and my was hip in a lot of pain today. I was really feeling that on the walk home, as well as not wanting to go home to my nasty boss and lack of community but especially work. Especially work.

The Fourth of July
Into the car in the morning and my mom and I drove up to Columbus, Ohio for my cousin's wedding.
As we were driving up, I was telling my mom about John From Cincinnati, Marty and my beloved show. Animatedly of course. It's hard to describe John to someone else, really. You have to see it. And you still may not get it. But as we're driving along, coming up to a bridge over a wide river expanse, I say, "Oh, what's this city?" She said, "Speaking of Cincinnati...." Heh. Not that Cincinnati actually had really anything to do with the show, but still.
We got to Bexley and the "block party" that my cousin had set up was going on. A fun affair of kids and a large moonwalk bouncy thingie in the middle of the street. This is one of those old upper middle class neighborhoods, where the houses are different, separated from each other with front and back lawns, kids riding their bikes on the sidewalks and streets, neighbors chatting with each other on their front porches, people wave when they go by. Idyllic. The "real" old American Dream.
My poor Aunt had fallen and dislocated her shoulder, badly bruised her knee, wrist and face. We were waiting for her to get back from the hospital which she did in short order. Ouch, she looked a mess. She was supposed to ride on the police department float in the Fourth of July parade (remember, Uncle Bob was a cop and this is his wife). The Chief of Police came by later, all gussied up in his bicycle cop outfit to check in on how she was doing. Again, the idyllic old American Dream at work.
Then I met my "long lost cousin" in a bit of an embarrassing moment. Really, I should have an excuse, the last time I saw him was 19 years ago when he big enough to hold in my arms and was slobbering on the laces of my hiking boots, just a bare six month old infant. So when a handsome young man following on the heels of a family member, well, I thought he was a friend of the family. He came in for a hug and hey, I'm about the hugging, I love to give hugs, so I didn't think anything of it. It was kind of noisy and I missed his name. We part from the hug and I say politely, "I'm sorry, I missed your name?" He gives me a little laugh and says, "It's Harrison." I think my mouth dropped and I probably was a little speechless for a moment, feeling a bit dumb. Harrison. Of course you are. But damnit, really... last time was 19 years ago. He seems to be quite a good egg, very talented.
Harrison, Maia (who IS a friend of the family) and I all played Frisbee out in the street in front of the house. Ouch, I think I'm feeling my age. Wait, I've always been feeling my age. Well, if you add on about 15 years to my age! Body aching but so much fun!
Then off to fireworks with family and friends. Maia wanted to hold my hand and proclaimed me her "Friend". We got up right against the safety fence and watched the fireworks from ground zero. Wow, they were pretty prolific and loud for a small suburban area.
I am going confess something Weenie Status about myself now.
I get all weird and patriotic on the Fourth of July.
I was a little teary this Fourth of July. I notice I have been teary past several years on this day. I see the fireworks in concert with the anthems playing and the cheesy Lee Greenwood song "God Bless the USA". Please forgive the utterly cheesy video I found on Youtube.com.
This is the one day that I am both very proud and very ashamed to be an American. We are a great nation. Well, we COULD be a great nation. We could be even an even greater country and sometimes I feel so sad that we hold ourselves back, that we don't have the support of our government and all our citizens to become one of the greatest nations on the face of the earth. A nation that could engender so much amazing change and positive creation, but instead so much energy goes toward destruction. But we have an amazing amount of social consciousness rippling through our country currently and that gives me some sense of hope.
Then off to White Castle with friends of Leah and Matt's, just those two and Harrison and I. He'd never had White Castle. I hadn't had White Castle in years. You know, those little mini "burgers". I wasn't missing anything, really. Ick. Grease and possible un-meat galore. But we had a nice conversation and got to be side ring to a fight that was happening outside. Hmm... fun.

Horses!!
We went to the Kentucky Horse Park and saw the Parade of Breed, including a Dutch breed called Fresians. Very gorgeous. All black and sleek with pretty manes and tails. Then we went on a van horse farm tour with a funny guy driving and giving the information. There are millions and millions of dollars in this industry from racing to breeding but mostly breeding. Apparently a horse from a good line can go for a couple of million before even being proven on the track.
Then we went to dinner with a friend of my mom's friend and my mom's boyfriend. The boyfriend was an hour and 45 minutes late and didn't even apologize. I was not impressed. Sorry mom.
Then we went out to play volleyball in a sand court. My mom plays for a small league and somehow I ended up in my mom's place. Curious that. I've never played on sand court before but it was fun. I couldn't see due to the rain and I had to take my glasses off, which was a little amusing, since the ball became a white blob sailing back and forth. With a little more practice, I would have remembered how to play a little better, but I did okay.
Then we went into the bar where the court was behind. I just wanted to go home at that point, I felt hurt and cold. But slowly I warmed up and then got "coerced" into playing foosball, which was a silly game but actually fun, again in a weird sort of way. Finally we left, late at night.
And damnit, I was up late again beyond the game. Still not getting enough sleep.

Butterfly Wings
We got our facials today. They were nice (and cheap is always good too). My mom hadn't really had a facial and I think she got a little teary at the pampering. I think she's going to make it a regular thing which I think is a good idea for her.
Then off to the Headley-Whitney museum and wandered around there. Apparently the Headley dude made bibelots. What the hell are bibelots, you ask? I certainly did. A bibelot is a small trinket or object with no practical value. Go here to see some examples at the museum. Pretty cool looking little things.
In the library where the Headley guy gathered things of the natural world for his collections. All sorts of strange things like narwhale tusks/horns, turtle shells one would serve caviar from, the like. (Ick.) But for me, there were two items on the mantle over the fire place that drew me and I couldn't keep my eyes off of them. Two of the same objects, framing the mantle.
These strangely glowing blue discs, almost convex plate surfaced with glass, drew attention from across the room. As I got closer, I realized that underneath the glass was layers of iridescent solid blue butterfly wings. Wow. I mean, just wow. I should have taken a photo but I didn't have my camera or my cell phone and I think photography was forbidden in any case. I looked all over the 'Net for photos of those items or something similar but couldn't find anything. Because, really, I can't describe them. But they were so amazing and mesmerizing.
And then back home. I was so tired. For some reason I'm having a very hard time adjusting to the time zone even though it's only three hours ahead of my old time. So I'm basically not getting much sleep and then having to get up at this time zone. Ack.

Metallic Toes
My mom and I had a lazy morning, getting up late to go have lunch. Then we decided to do some self-pampering and my mom said there was a beauty college in Lexington, which always means cheaper pampering rather than the prohibitive costs of some spas. Sometimes the job isn't so great because it's students, but hey, I'm always a willing guinea pig in this arena. So off we went to to get pedicures the first day and facials the next.
I'm not much for nail polish, especially on my nails, probably because I still tend to chew on my fingernails. And I wear sneakers pretty much all the time, so can't really see the point of having nail polish on my toes either. But off we went and I liked all the shaping and filing and such. I make such a mess of my toes on my own, cutting and picking and digging. Constantly getting infections on the sides because the in-grown parts get... in-grown. So, at least they could shape them up and then paint them so I won't touch them.
I chose silver, because I've always like metallic colors if I'm going to do nail polish.
