Friday the 13th

Friday the 13th is considered a lucky day in my family. Apparently my maternal grandfather got raises and promotions and other family members have experienced positive gains from Friday the 13th.

I was reading that some Dutch guy did a research project on Friday the Thirteenth. The study didn't say HOW he had gathered his data, whether narratively or quantitatively, but he reported his conclusions were that Friday the 13th was actually safer than other Fridays. To this, I have to say "Duh." because everyone is probably being more careful out of superstition.

Marty and I went to see The Happening. An M. Night Shyamalan movie. I like his movies for the most part while Marty would drop to the floor and flail and wail at that comment. He thinks he's too predictable with the twist endings. Bah, whatever. But this movie was pretty grim. The constant suicides were hard to take and the ending was very depressing. So Marty and I came up with a different ending.

Spoilers!! Sort of.

When the two are hiding out in crazy old lady's house, separated from each other, locked in their respective rooms, he in the old room in the house, she in the water shed, speaking to each other through the pipe. Then he decides that he will go to them no matter the cost if he dies or not, just to be with her. And as he steps out, she has stepped out too, to meet him. The wind kicks up, the dreaded sign that death is coming but they don't die and the audience realizes that the "peak" time has passed them by and they are safe. Okay, that's the real movie so far. So this is the real ending.

They step out towards each other, the wind kicks up, but they are peaceful in their love for each other in that very moment. The wind, the plants, whatever, Sense something is different here. They can Feel the love between these two humans and are touched, moved by it. The message spreads throughout the plants and they realize that maybe there is something good about humans after all, not just the capacity to destroy but to love deeply as well. The plants change their "killer" pollen and the pair are safe as they come together in the middle of the field. Then it cuts to him taking the girl to school as in the real movie and he returns home, going inside the house, rather than out on the sidewalk. And she tells him that she is is pregnant in the spacious living room that is filled with lush and obviously very flourishing plants.

The End. Much better, thank you very much.
