Quantum of Solace

Marty, Gieve and I went to see the newest James Bond film, Quantum of Solace. I have to say, I like the new Bond.

Marty showed me From Russia, With Love and it was okay. I could see how it was a reflection of the times it made in.

I think that's how Bond has survived for so long. It changes to reflect the current events and times of the world. And the new Bond fits in a much fiercer, somewhat darker world.

Plus, Daniel Craig kicks ass. I'm still certain he has cybernetic eyes, those things seem to glow inhumanely, plus, cool color. This photo doesn't do the man's eyes justice. Although it certainly does the man justice. His sort of flawed looks are growing on me.

Expansion Blues

Well, after hours of crying in the aftermath of the end of a career, I was listening to music as usually and for some reason this song captivated me and soothed my bruised soul late late at night, or I guess early early in the morning.
Caribbean Blue - Enya

Vocals

So the world goes round and round
With all you ever knew
They say the sky high above
Is Caribbean blue

Vocals

If every man says all he can,
If every man is true,
Do I believe the sky above
Is Caribbean blue

Vocals

If all you told was turned to gold,
If all you dreamed was new,
Imagine sky high above
In Caribbean blue

Vocals

Someone's photos from some trip, to the song.

On another note, I waited all day for the new expansion of World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King (releasing today) to arrive only to find out the company messed up my order and it would not be coming. So I ordered it from a different company and will have to wait until Monday or so which is really irritating. I popped on a couple of times and everyone was like "This is great and look at that!" so I logged of and probably won't play much until it comes. Don't want anything to be spoiled nor do I want to feel grumpy listening to everyone else enjoy it either. Bah.

The Decision

I figured at cost for a supervisor, ten hours per one hour of supervision, probably at around $100 per session, is about $1600 a month. With most supervisors not likely to sign off 40 hours a week in any case. Most jobs will give you one hour. I don't want to work in the mental health system right now.

So, there it is. It's pretty much not doable. And thusly I let it go. Almost 10 years of this. School started in 1998, hours started in 2000.

This really sucks but ultimately I think it's okay. I did, afterall, decide almost two years ago to stop then. I should have listened to myself and not the "But it's only 300 hours, how can you stop now!" of others.

I've decided my last day at my internship will be December 9th. And then it's pretty much over. No more hours. And no license. But who knows what will happen after that.

I don't really want to go back into the mental health field, to deal with COCs and people's crap. And the COCs telling you that you aren't good enough to deal with people's crap when you actually are. But I digress.

So, the big question is... what now?

The Real Hours

Well, I finally counted it all up (minus the couple of hundred from Katie still at New Perspectives, but I can guess). I even made a spiffy Excel sheet and all.

Yep, by the time I hit June, I will not have finished my 500 kid hours and I will have lost about 1100 hours, hell, about 750 by the end of December. Meaning, I would need to get 40 hours a week from this point onwards to make up for that and make up for those kid hours as well so I would be done.

"Just 300 hours", my ass.

Hours

Well, the count up has begun. By June 2009, end of my internship, it looks like I will have lost around 1100 hours and still won't have gotten my child hours, stretching my time even more, losing hours even more.

If I really really pushed it, I might make it?

But the question is.... do I want it? Do I want to bust my ass?

Still, I'm counting.... making sure...

Robotech

I've said I love Netflix before, right?

Well, I love Netflix.

I rented Robotech from Netflix and it really was some rocking old anime, totally nostalgic.

I read almost all of the books and saw a few of the old shows plus I just have a soft spot for that old anime, like Robotech and G Force: Battle of the Planets. I grew up with it.

Cheesy but hey, I'm gonna start watching the A-Team at some point and I really grew up with the old 80's shows like the A-Team, MacGyver, Knight Rider, Star Trek (when reshown), leading into the 90's shows like The X-Files, Star Trek: The Next Generation (and those that followed), Hercules and Xena.

In a way, yes, they are completely cheesy compared against today's shows but in a way, they have a timeless quality to them that can be watched even now. I think possibly because they were in different, and to me, less dark times and reflected the lighter qualities then. Shows can be pretty damn dark these days.

I know it rots your brain, but long live TV shows.

Role Models

We saw Role Models today. It was a funny and sweet movie, especially for us nerds.

I was one of those D&D playing types. Although I didn't LARP. Well, maybe I tried it once or twice. I was in the SCA which is supposedly more "realistically" oriented. LARP has magic and fantasy and such. SCA is supposed to be a recreation of medival times. Thankfully, not the realism about how women were treated like chattel. Or people being all grimy and grungy. Or hell, all sorts of unsavory things.

But definitely more frou-frou than "realistic".

And still, very nerdy.

But hey, I'm proud of being a nerd these days.

The Geek shall inherent the earth!

Dinner With the Israelis

Today was mostly cleaning. It's a good thing to have friends over for events since it really makes you clean up your place to make it look good.

And then cooking a lasagna recipe I found on the internet which I called California Lasagna since it had all fancy stuff like feta cheese and artichoke hearts. I'm not much of a cook. My specialties are whipped cream and salad dressing. But dude, I have a Master's degree. I can read. And follow recipes with varying degrees of success. This one turned out pretty good. It almost made me want to cook more.

Almost.

Dinner was great. Gal and Liron reminisced about Burning Man a little bit and we of course annoyed them with parrot talk. Gods, bird owners are so dumb sometimes. And we aren't even as obsessed as some. But off we go, rambling on and on. But they weathered it well and we had a good time. And a clean house.

Proposition 8

Well, Proposition 8 had passed when we woke up in the morning. This was very depressing to hear.

There are so many assholes in the world although I'm sure those assholes think the other side are assholes too. So I guess there are just too many assholes in the world.

Election Day

I was constantly updating online while playing WoW, tabbing out almost every ten minutes after 5pm, since I knew that's when most East Coast polls would be closing at 8pm their time.

When Kentucky first went to McCain, I started biting my nails.

BUT...

I watched his acceptance speech, getting a bit teary myself, like the audience, lord knows probably like the world.

I went shopping for celebratory cookies and as I walked to the store, I could see many a shade raised and all TVs turned to the news channels. People were obviously celebrating in their homes and there were a couple of people out on the sidewalk talking on their cell phones, planning to go out to eat and celebrate.

I am so relieved. And I feel those shreds of hope forming, like the rest of the world. I imagine it's a bit like JFK's day and how the entire country and the world's eyes were turn to us with some sense of hope finally. That's my fantasy anyway.

However, I'm going to bed with uncertainty about Prop 8 (constitution ban on gay marriage) and its fate, with the polls still leading on the Yes, We, The Idiots of California will follow the Church's and Religious group's moola (to the tune of around $73 million) and step forwards to vote away people's rights. What fun! It's not looking good for Prop. 8 to be shot down. With some uncertainly... I sniff my way into bed.

BUT.....!!!!!

He won.

Rock

My mood today.
I Am A Rock - Simon & Garfunkel

A winter's day
In a deep and dark December;
I am alone,
Gazing from my window to the streets below
On a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow.
I am a rock,
I am an island.

I've built walls,
A fortress deep and mighty,
That none may penetrate.
I have no need of friendship; friendship causes pain.
It's laughter and it's loving I disdain.
I am a rock,
I am an island.

Don't talk of love,
Well, I've heard the word before.
It's sleeping in my memory.
I won't disturb the slumber of feelings that have died.
If I never loved I never would have cried.
I am a rock,
I am an island.

I have my books
And my poetry to protect me;
I am shielded in my armor,
Hiding in my room, safe within my womb.
I touch no one and no one touches me.
I am a rock,
I am an island.

And a rock feels no pain;
And an island never cries.

Mood = Not Great.

November Brings the Deluge

It was pouring rain today. Our rainy season is usually from November to February so the rains come practically on the beginning of the season. Bleh. Since Diego Garcia, I hate rain. I had enough to fill a lifetime then.

So I played Halo 2 all day (on easy mode, since I just wanted the story). Then I started Halo 3, which is ridiculously gorgeous. Wow, the textures and the details. Almost overwhelming.

Then off to the Non-Dual dinner that Marty, as one of the Board for the Non-Dual conference, arranged for presenters. I went as arm candy. It was first attempt at "solid" food, which was a horrible shame since it was at Nirvana (great restaurant to go for Non-Dual folks, eh?) (also one of my favorite places) and it hurt so much to attempt to chew (although try swallowing rice whole, that's kind of nasty too). But it was so worth it to finally have a full meal. Ahhh, food!
